History of Disdain

Hindu my theology traces the story of Dashain back to the age when Shiva waas lord of the deities .At that time a monster named Mahishashura was in the habit of tormenting all the minor deities and sages to such an extent that they were forced to go to Shiva and ask his assistance in ridding them of their oppressors .To destroy Mahishashura ,Shiva created the beautiful Goddess Durga Devi Eventually Mashashura was slained by Durga Devi and the sages once more were able to worship in peace .The story continues many thousand of years later when Indra was king of the Gods indra had for a long time been attempting to quell certain devils and demons who were endeavouring to over throw him and after many defeats had requested assistance from Dasharath , king of Ayodhya . Dasharath Joined the battle and with him he took his two wives , kaushalya and kaikey . During the battle , the pin which secured the wheel of the axle of the king's chariot broke , thus preventing Dasharath from continuing the battle kaikeyi however effected a temporary repair by using her finger in place of the broken pin . The chariot thus enabled him to assist indra in winning the battle and quelling his enemies . For her bravery during the battle Dasharatha made a promise to his wife kaikeyi that he would fulfil any two wishes which she cared to make , kaikeyi chose to keep the wishes until she had real need of them some years later ,when dasharath had become and old man he decided that thed time had come for him to nominate one of his four sons ,Ramchandra , Lakshaman Bharat and shatrughan to be king in his place . He choose his eldest son Ramchandra ,No sooner had the heir been acclaimed by the people ,the an old sage came to Dasharath with plea for help to free him and his fellows from devils that were oppressing them . The king commanded his two sons to go in to the Jungle and slay the offending devils this they did and on their return home they passed though a town called Janakpur .The king of janakpur , whose name was Janak was holding a contest for the hand in marriage of his daughter the task too , lift agigantic bow and shoot an arrow . The task was to lift agigantic bow and shoot an arrow . The task proved too difficult for any of the local competitors , until , Ramchandra attempted the lift to the amazement of the crowd ,the stranger lifted the bow and whilst bending it to shoot the arrow the bow broke in his hands .Ramchandra and janak's daughter Sita were married immediately ,then the pair coronation on the journey home . On return they found that preparation for the coronation were in progress , it was at this moment that kajkeyi chose to make her two wishes . Her first wish was to send ram Chandra on exile for 14 years and the second wish was for her son Bharat to assume the crown in ram Chandra , could do noting but to send his son away .sita and ramchandra 's younger brother Lakshaman went with him into exile . Their exile were beset with misfortunes culminating in the abduction of sita by ravana ,king of Lanka .Ravana who had been present at janakpur was Jealous of Ramchandra who had thwarted his plans to wed site . He took his revenge by enlisting the aid of a medicine man abduction sita . Ramchandra and Lakshaman after day fo fruitless searching for the lost princess , met hanuman son of the wind and king of the monkeys who told them that a lady had thrown jewellery to him from a pushpak Biman ,be lived to be some kind of aerial conveyance bedecked with flower .Ramchandra recognized the jewellery as that of his wife so Hanuman led the way to a place called Ashok Bette in which he knew sita was common knowledge that Ravana was the most skilful and capable warrior living . He was in fact presumed to be unconquerable by any ordinary being . Ramchandra knew this so before commencing the task of recapturing his wife he consulted a particularly wise and educated saga called Naradmun seemingly impossible quest Ramchandra should spend some days in the worship of Durga Devi the Goddess of victory . This he did on the first day of his worship which is known as Ghatasthapa-
Na . He also built a man dir and image of Goddess Durga from the school until the seventh day he devoted to the worship of Durga , who repaid his devotion by blessing him with super natural strength and by creating for his use new weapons and means of waging war . The eighth day known as kalarati , Ramchandra was visited by Goddess of victory . The ninth days was the day of battle when Ramchandra slew Ravana and destroyed the city of Lanka . The tenth day ,Bijaya Dashami was the last day of exile and Ramchandra returned home with his wife and brother . This was the day of rejoicing and reunion of the family on their arrival at home they were all garlanded by Ramchandra 's mother . To mark the occasion of the family reunion and general happiness , she had their for escheats decorated with Tika during the period of Ramchandra 's exile the younger brother Bharat had not been reigning he preferred to leave the throne to his elder brother . so the plans fo ramchandra 's coronation began again and eventually he become king of A yodhya and thus completes the mythological history of festival .
